I spent around 16 hours of my rather mundane life researching, testing, assembling, and writing this guide to give you my take on the best gaming desk this 2018. While finding the perfect desk isn't the most enjoyable task, I did revel in the fact that it would help my fellow nerds make an informed decision, at least once in their lives.

Best budget gaming desk

1. Z-Line Belaire Glass L-Shaped Computer Desk

Z-Line Belaire Glass L-Shaped Computer Desk

QUICK SPECS

  • Height: 37 inches
  • Weight: 96.45 pounds
  • Dimensions: 60"(W) x 24"(D)

Okay, so first of all, I’m not into the all glass surfaces. For someone like me, who’s a bit on wide and somewhat of a  klutz, it could be a serious accident waiting to happen.

Okay, so first of all, I’m not into the all glass surfaces. For someone like me, who’s a bit on wide and somewhat of a  klutz, it could be a serious accident waiting to happen.

Plus if like LEDs on your gaming peripherals, they are gonna look sick when you dim the room lights.

z-line belair

Heck, turn them off completely for a really wicked light show. Even if you aren’t planning to live stream, awesome lighting can definitely set the mood for some intense fragging.

Sadly, on the flipside, the glass desktop and small framing means it’ll take some serious planning and cable management to make it look clean. Because the minimalist design leaves very little area to hide away cables.

WHAT I LIKE

  • Raised monitor stand
  • Interchangeable layout
  • Sturdy metal frame

WHAT SUCKED

  • All glass desktop
  • Difficult cable management
  • Glass surface is a fingerprint magnet

2. GreenForest L-Shape Corner Computer Office Desk

GreenForest L-Shape Corner Computer Office Desk

QUICK SPECS

  • Height: 29.13 inches
  • Weight: 37.2 pounds
  • Dimensions: 58.1‘’(L) x 44.3"(W) x 19.1(D)

The GreenForest computer desk is an office desk, no doubt about it. But it still deserves a spot on this list of the most-recommended gaming desks, because of its outstanding value. At just around $100, this office desk will serve you surprisingly well.

Made of medium-density fiberwood, doesn’t feel cheap. The black finish and minimalist frame give it a very stylish modern look and allows it to fit in any office or game room.

An addition to being very affordable and easy to put together, you can easily purchase another one and form a U-shaped battlestation.

GreenForest L-Shape Corner Computer Office Desk

Unfortunately, the slim frame is kind of unstable because they’re attached to the fiberwood desktop that’s honestly a bit chaffy. This causes the table to shake a bit if not placed beside a wall to support it.

Other than stability, the only problem I have with this desk is that its usable desktop area is on the small side. Not that I have a lot of stuff, nor do I have a multi-monitor setup, but I like to place my arms on the desk for typing and this table can feel a bit confined.

WHAT I LIKE

  • Value for money
  • Simple to put together
  • Sleek clean look

WHAT SUCKED

  • Long and short tables can’t be interchanged
  • A bit shaky
  • Small desktop area

3. Ameriwood Home Dakota L-Shaped Desk

Ameriwood Home Dakota L-Shaped Desk

QUICK SPECS

  • Height: 28 5/16 inches
  • Weight: 70 pounds
  • Dimensions: 51 5/16” (W) x 53 5/8” (D)

Yes, I know, I know - What the heck is this doing here? But let’s be serious for a moment, not everyone can afford the top-of-the-line desk and the Ameriwood Home Dakota office desk fits the bill perfectly at under $100.

From the looks it’s clearly something meant for a small home office, and it has the quaint small home charm to go with it. Completely made from fiberwood, this office desk belies its materials by using laminated wood grain that can fool you upon first look.

Ameriwood Home Dakota L-Shaped Desk

My problem with laminated wood furniture is that the glue tends to loosen over time especially in humid weather, but properly maintained it’ll last for years, or at least until you’ve saved up to get something else. Even then, this’ll be an excellent hand-me-down study table for your kids, relatives, or whatever.

The Ameriwood Home Dakota desk deserves its place in this top gaming desk list for its affordability and sturdy design. Although very small, compared to other office desks, it’s wide framing and all-wood  materials make it quite sturdy regardless if you put it up against a wall or not. This is definitely something worth taking a look at as a small home office choice.

WHAT I LIKE

  • Affordable
  • Sturdy all wood design
  • Cable management grommets

WHAT SUCKED

  • Narrow desktop area
  • Not interchangeable
  • Wood lamination can peel over time

Best mid-range gaming desk

1. Techni Mobili Deluxe Desk

Techni Mobili Deluxe Desk

QUICK SPECS

  • Height: 29.5 inches
  • Weight: 112 pounds
  • Dimensions: 55"(L) x 65"(W)

First thing I thought when I saw the Techni Mobili Deluxe desk was, “This is probably what Captain James Kirk has in his study.” This space-age desk looks like it belongs among the bright LEDs of gaming hardware, I actually felt a bit embarrassed to place anything as archaic like a book or paper on top of this.

The various materials used on this table are a whole blur of words, but what really draws your attention is the absolutely gorgeous frosted glass desktop. I do have an aversion to glass desktops because I’m afraid of obliterating it, but I’d be willing to take the risk just to stare at this piece of art.

Techni Mobili Deluxe Desk

Best of all you can get some decent LED strips for around $50 and completely transform your gaming area. Frosted glass totally elevates LED lighting because of the translucent glacier-like effect, definitely worth of the title best computer gaming desk.

The rest of the frame looks pretty damn good as well, although for a specific niche. The modern industrious styling is somewhat a limitation if you’re one who likes a cohesive interior design in your gaming room, unless, of course, that’s exactly what you’re going for.

WHAT I LIKE

  • Gorgeous frosted glass desktop
  • Solid and sturdy frame
  • Easy cable management

WHAT SUCKED

  • Specific design niche
  • Keyboard tray is small and not well designed
  • Assembly can be complicated due to weight

2. Atlantic Gaming Desk Pro

Atlantic Gaming Desk Pro

QUICK SPECS

  • Height: 36 inches
  • Weight: 44 pounds
  • Dimensions: 52"(L) x 25.25"(W)

First thing that crossed my mind was this is probably what Vin Diesel’s picnic table looks like. I guess it’s the crossbar legs, but I couldn’t shake off the thought of those folding plastic tables you find in the home and garden section of the hardware store.

But make no mistake about it, this desk literally screams at you to spend hours upon hours of mind-numbing entertainment on it. From the carbon fiber desktop to all the little bells and whistles that come it, this desk was designed specifically to prevent you from ever standing up and walking away. Now if only there were gaming chairs with built-in potties.

Atlantic Gaming Desk

However, it does come with some drawbacks that I feel are important to note. It is probably the gaming desk for you, that is if gaming is the only thing you’re gonna be doing on it. If not, then the Atlantic Gaming desk may not be the one for you.

For one thing, there is very limited room to work with. Although wide and long enough to comfortably rest your arms on the desktop, that’s pretty much it. You won’t be able to do any actual work without having some other desk or table nearby, even the narrow monitor stand may pose some problems especially if you have a multi-monitor setup.

WHAT I LIKE

  • Beautiful carbon fiber desktop
  • Solid and sturdy frame
  • Built-in cable management

WHAT SUCKED

  • Very limited workspace
  • Narrow monitor stand
  • Can’t accomodate large speakers

3. Kinsal Gaming Desk

Kinsal Gaming Desk

QUICK SPECS

  • Height: 27.5 inches
  • Weight: 66 pounds
  • Dimensions: 47.2"(L) x 25.6"(W)

Calling this a gaming desk it kind of an understatement. I wouldn’t be surprised to see it gracing the stage of an eSports tournament. And with that said, it’s pretty clear as to why you’d get the Kinsal Gaming desk, otherwise the almost $200 price tag could be better spent elsewhere.

Even for a dedicated gaming station, I find it difficult to justify the price. It definitely has the eSports looks down, but that also means it’ll be difficult to fit in your interior design if you’re not going for that over-the-top eSports look.

Kinsal Gaming Desk

It may not look it, but the desktop is wooden with some ABS plastic embellishments around the edges and corners, which I personally think is a great touch on because it prevents klutz such as myself from hurting ourselves or messing up more of my clothes.

Also, I honestly didn’t expect much from the so-called “Z-shaped frame”, but it is surprisingly stable for standing on just two legs. This with combined with the desk clearance offers a ton of legroom. The desk is also long enough to accommodate at least one other monitor, maybe three but that’s a bit confined already.

WHAT I LIKE

  • Solid and sturdy frame
  • No sharp corners
  • Lots of legroom

WHAT SUCKED

  • On the expensive side
  • Too gaming-oriented style
  • Not much workspace other than for gaming

Top gaming desk for storage

1. Ameriwood Home Dakota Space Saving L Desk

Ameriwood Home Dakota Space Saving L Desk

QUICK SPECS

  • Height: 49.1 inches
  • Weight: 86.5 pounds
  • Dimensions: 47.4" (L) x 60.1"(W)

Now if storage for all your gaming peripherals, action figures, geek treasure hoard, and maybe some work stuff is what you need, then the Ameriwood Space Saving desk will have lots of places for you to stuff your nerd stash into. Although, I’m not sure if “space saving” is exactly the right term considering the actual size of this piece of furniture.

Now it may not have the looks, but don’t eliminate it completely from your options, especially if you’re looking for a multi-purpose desk and not just for gaming sessions. Sure, the classical style of the Ameriwood desk does feel like it belongs in an 80’s girls room, but it still makes up for it with usable workspace.

Ameriwood Home Dakota L Desk

Now the desktop area itself is kind of narrow, but because it makes use of vertical space - which is probably the most wasted space in any home - you actually have more room than if it were just a plain desk. And at under $200, it’s a bit of a bargain for all that storage. I guess that really does mean it’s “space saving”, I stand corrected.

WHAT I LIKE

  • Lots of usable vertical space
  • Easy cable management
  • Sturdy all wood design

WHAT SUCKED

  • Classical style
  • Not interchangeable
  • Narrow desktop area

2. HomCom Multi Level Tower Office Workstation

HomCom Multi Level Tower Office Workstation

QUICK SPECS

  • Height: 48.4 inches
  • Weight: 99.2 pounds
  • Dimensions: 52.4"(L) x 21.7"(W)

What I find amusing about the HomCom Multi-level Workstation is that it does actually look like one of those modern architectural steel frame skyscrapers that have been sprouting up in major cities. So if you work - or live - in one of those towers, than this will fit in quite nicely.

It’s definitely got some modern artistic flair to it, but for me who leans more on function-over-form, it seems a bit unnecessary. For one thing the assembly can be complicated because of the different level designs. But once you’ve figured it out, the modern industrious look fits nicely into any game room or dorm room.

HomCom Multi Level

One of my design issues involved the shelf under the desktop, it eats up legroom that’s already limited by the drawers on the side. The desktop area itself is quite wide, I could probably rest my arms on it if the legroom would let me get closer to the desk.

Now a student would need ample storage for schoolwork and this is why the HomCom desk would be the best desk for gaming in this scenario. Not only is the overall size quite compact, it doesn’t sacrifice on the storage with lots of shelves and drawers that can fit all sorts of things you may want to tuck away but still keep within arms reach when on your computer.

But sadly the price point may be a turn off for the typical working student, unless of course the parents are willing to help a bit. For a home office, on the other hand, it’s definitely a viable piece of furniture especially if your work involves a lot of documents, books and whatnot.

WHAT I LIKE

  • Compact yet decent desktop area
  • Accessible storage
  • Easy cable management

WHAT SUCKED

  • Tricky assembly
  • Limited legroom
  • Pricey for the materials

3. Convenience Concepts Modern Student Desk

Convenience Concepts Modern Student Desk

QUICK SPECS

  • Height: 30 inches
  • Weight: 41 pounds
  • Dimensions: 47.2"(L) x 15.8"(W)

Strictly speaking, this may not be the best desk for gaming per se, but considering a large majority of gamer demographics are working students or those in high school to college level, it’ll make sense that an affordable student desk would fit the bill quite well.

At well under a $100, you’re getting what you pay for. The desktop area is very small, you’ll barely be able to fit a full-size keyboard and monitor, even at an angle But if you’re in a dorm with a gaming laptop, there won’t be much of a problem here.

Convenience Concepts Desk

There’s a lot of storage that is easily reachable at an arm's length, especially the shelf underneath the desktop which is just as large and quite deep. Putting storage on the “legs” of the desk adds to the compact size of this desk but the design is a bit worrisome in terms of stability.

The stability of the desk comes into question because of the seemingly flimsy fiberwood and the overall construction feels halfbaked. But it’s surprisingly sturdy when put together. Placing some books or other weighted items in the side shelves help stabilize the desk, or simply placing it up against a wall. Although this will severely limit the already very small legroom.

WHAT I LIKE

  • Very quick and easy assembly
  • Storage is easily accessible
  • Very compact for small rooms

WHAT SUCKED

  • Small desktop area
  • Limited legroom
  • Questionable stability

4. Coaster Home Furnishings L Shaped Office Desk

Coaster Home Furnishings L Shaped Office Desk

QUICK SPECS

  • Height: 29.5 inches
  • Weight: 143 pounds
  • Dimensions: 60"(L) x 47.2"(W)

This Coaster Home office desk would be beautiful in my personal home office, if it didn’t suffer from narrow desktop area and very restricting legroom. Which is kind of a deal breaker for me. But we’re still including it in this list because it’s just really beautiful to look at and will easily fit into any space.

The best thing about this desk is the interchangeable layout, so if you’re a lefty like me you won’t experience the same old problem that we lefties have regarding L-shaped desks. Even if you aren’t a lefty, it’s still an important feature especially if your place has limited options on where to place the desk.

Coaster Home Furnishings

The second reason I still like this desk, is that it’s just nice to look at. Admittedly, it is made from medium-density fiberwood, but the beautiful melamin lamination easily hides this fact. And the all wood minimalist design makes this desk easily fit in cohesively into almost any interior design styling.

However, the legroom is very confining due to the shelves being right there to the side, clumsy as I am, I’d easily kick off anything I place there. But that can easily be overcome by simply not putting anything there, and it’s not such a big loss since the Coaster Home office desk has so many other storage areas.

WHAT I LIKE

  • Interchangeable layout
  • Beautiful minimalist design
  • Lots of storage

WHAT SUCKED

  • Quite pricey
  • Very little legroom
  • Awkward shelving

How About Portability? Top portable gaming desks

1. Vogue Carpenter Industrial Style Folding Laptop Table

Vogue Carpenter Industrial Style

QUICK SPECS

  • Height: 29.5 inches
  • Weight: 11 pounds
  • Dimensions: 39.4"(L) x 19.7"(W)

Sometimes we just need somewhere to place a laptop and not get in the way, so if room real estate is a concern for you then this Vogue Carpenter folding table will work well for you.

The metal frame looks flimsy at first glance, but once you’ve got it set up the stability and sturdiness of the legs are a pleasant surprise. On top of that, the small frame makes it so much easier to put away when you need extra floor space in your room.

It’s very light as well, so you can easily move it to some other area in the house and still find some use for it.

Vogue Carpenter Industrial Style Folding Laptop Table

Need more table space for guests in the dining room? Or maybe a you wanna serve snacks and drinks in the backyard? No problem. This is in our list simply because of its pure versatility. It can serve more than one function, and with minimum hassle.

Of course, this much portability does come with some drawbacks. Namely, the desktop area is really only for laptops. On top of that, it seems the designers went just a tiny bit too far into trying to make the faux wood feel like real wood to the point that the desktop surface isn’t quite as smooth as you’d expect.

WHAT I LIKE

  • Easy to setup and put away
  • Very versatile utility
  • Surprisingly sturdy yet lightweight

WHAT SUCKED

  • Very little desktop space
  • Weight capacity is a concern
  • Wood finish isn’t smooth

2. Origami Foldable Computer Desk

Origami Foldable Computer Desk

QUICK SPECS

  • Height: 30 inches
  • Weight: 38.25 pounds
  • Dimensions: 48”(L) x 23.5"(W)

You’d think that anyone in their right mind would avoid placing an expensive monitor - not to mention a PC tower - on a computer table that literally markets it’s folding capability. Well, it appears the designers at Origami didn’t think it’d be much of a big deal. They may be right in this case.

I know you’re probably skeptical about this, and I wouldn’t blame you. But this desk came as a very pleasant surprise. The all-steel frame is very sturdy and locks securely in place once you’ve assembled it and it’s deceptively easy to setup or fold down flat for easy storage, earning its spot on this list.

Origami Foldable Computer Desk

The particle wood desktop, which actually pops off when you want to stow away the table, feels more like some sort of really dense plastic compound. Another pleasant surprise is the size of the desktop area, which is much larger than I had originally expected, and can easily fit two monitors and a full size keyboard. Of course, if that is your setup, you won’t have much room left for anything else.

If there are any issues with the Origami computer desk, they’re very minor ones. Such as the smoothness of the desktop surface, which makes writing on paper difficult but not so bad that it would effect optical mouse performance.

Another minor issue, for me personally, is the bottom panels don’t fit all types of towers. It can easily accommodate Micro ATX towers and some mid-sized towers, but for full towers the panels are too small which put your computer on a precarious balancing act. Moreover, even though the foot rest is a nice touch, you can end up swaying the whole bottom panel if you push off the foot rest to rock in your chair.

WHAT I LIKE

  • Deceptively simple to setup and stow away
  • Large desktop area
  • Sturdy and secure anti-folding lock

WHAT SUCKED

  • Bottom panels are small for full size towers
  • Can sway if you push off the foot rest
  • Desktop surface isn’t smooth

3. Need Folding Computer Desk

Need Folding Computer Desk

QUICK SPECS

  • Height: 29.5 inches
  • Weight: 40 pounds
  • Dimensions: 55"(L) x 23.7"(W)

If reliability and portability is what you need, then look no further than this little gem in our list of the best PC gaming desk. You Need it, pun intended. The best thing about the Need (I can’t get enough of that brand name) folding computer desk how it was designed with the least number of moving parts and, for me, that’s always a good thing.

The desktop itself is quite smooth and there’s a solid weight to it that gives me confidence of a quality build. Plus it’s literally a wood board with legs that fold into itself, how much more complicated should it be?

There’s very little wrong with the Need Folding desk, although it may be good to note that there are some minor safety hazards.

Need Folding Computer Desk

First there are the sharp corners, it could poke a child in the eye. Otherwise you’d just get a painful stab in the thigh if you’re not careful. Second, make sure to keep full awareness of your fingers when you’re folding this desk. It really hurts.

But all in all, at just around $100 this is definitely worth considering for the best computer gaming desk, especially if what you need is a desk that can easily be put away when you need more space in the room.

WHAT I LIKE

  • Literally no assembly required
  • Lots of desktop area
  • Sturdy and secure locking

WHAT SUCKED

  • Sharp corners
  • Finger hazard when folding
  • Finger hazard when folding

Best gaming desk for multiple monitors

1. Walker Edison Soreno Corner Desk

Walker Edison Soreno Corner Desk

QUICK SPECS

  • Height: 29 inches
  • Weight: 57 pounds
  • Dimensions: 51"(W) x 20"(D)

The Walker Edison Soreno is a beauty in and of itself. The clean powder coat finish and polished tempered glass truly make it something to behold. And it’s somewhere in the middle in the price range for the best desk for PC gaming.

What’s really impressive is that the tempered safety glass can handle a variety of multi-monitor setups. The downside being that it has a minimalist aesthetic, you’re gonna have to plan well to make sure there are no unsightly cables sticking out.

Another great feature is that you can set it up as a side-by-side long table instead of the L-shape, if that’s what you prefer. In fact, it could potentially be a better option considering the corner glass kind of floats between the two desk frames.

Walker Edison Desk

Which is something that kind of bothered me, the fact that the glass isn’t actually secured to the frame as I would have thought. Instead the glass sits on the frame with suctions cups to hold it. Somehow I worry about that, but then again, being entirely a glass desktop already has me worried to start with.

I don’t have my own crazy multi-monitor setup, but I have seen some users who have, and I can see how it works well. The LED additions that other have done are also very impressive to look at, something you may want to consider as well if you decide to pick up this one for your gaming setup.

WHAT I LIKE

  • Interchangeable layout
  • Sturdy steel frame
  • Tempered glass can handle heavy multi-monitor setups

WHAT SUCKED

  • Cable management needs some planning
  • Sliding keyboard tray is tiny
  • Glass sits on suction cups

2. Need Computer Desk

Need Computer Desk

QUICK SPECS

  • Height: 29.5 inches
  • Weight: 40 pounds
  • Dimensions: 47"(L) x 23.7"(W)

The Need computer desk is a minimalist’s dream, and personally one of my favorites. I don’t have any outrageous computer setup, so having a simple reliable desk is already the perfect case for me.

And because the Need computer desk is so simple, it’s also very stable with thick metal framing and a solid particle wood desktop that is beautiful as it is sturdy. Need advertises that their desktop surface is highly resistant to scratches and friction, and form the looks of it, that’s probably true.

Need Computer Desk

With that said, you may want to pick up some table corner protectors, being a relatively large desk, it’s really easy to injure yourself on the desk corners. Speaking of size, this desk has ample space to fit a three-monitor setup, with room enough for other peripherals and still accommodate resting your arms on the table.

WHAT I LIKE

  • Solid and sturdy thick frame
  • Ample desktop space
  • Lots of legroom

WHAT SUCKED

  • Sharp corners
  • Very minimalist
  • Nothing additional

3. Tribesigns Modern Desk

Tribesigns Modern Desk

QUICK SPECS

  • Height: 29 inches
  • Weight: 55 pounds
  • Dimensions: 66.14“(L) x 49.21"(D)

If I had to pick an L-shape desk, I’d probably go with this one. I have an aversion to glass surfaces due to my fear of shattering them, but I absolutely adore clean wooden desktops. And the Tribesigns Modern desk delivers on this preference with a gorgeous particle wood desktop.

Sitting in the mid-range price of the best desks for gaming, you get a very solid and sturdy gaming station because of the thicker all-steel framing.

In fact, Tribesigns claim that this desk can handle up to 450 lbs. More than enough for the most outrageous multi-monitor setup you can think of.

Tribesigns Modern Desk

Although you can’t really modify the layout, the minimalist symmetric design will look good from either angle. However, this poses another problem with cable management. It’s a bit of a disappointment that for something as sturdy and beautiful as this, cable management wasn’t thought about in the design at all.

It’s also missing a slide out keyboard tray, which is usually expected on an L-shaped desk. I never use those, but some people may find that as a minor annoyance. This in turn opens up the bottom of the desk to a ton of legroom, especially since they’ve cleverly omitted the need for a additional legs in the bottom of the middle corner.

WHAT I LIKE

  • Gorgeous particle wood desktop
  • Very solid and sturdy steel frame
  • Legroom, legroom, legroom

WHAT SUCKED

  • Non interchangeable layout
  • No cable management considerations
  • No keyboard tray

Most attractive gaming desks?

1. Prepac Wall Mounted Floating Desk

Prepac Wall Mounted Floating Desk

QUICK SPECS

  • Height: 39.5 inches
  • Weight: 60 pounds
  • Dimensions: 19.8"(D) x 42.2"(W)

This Prepac Wall Mounted desk is more of an aesthetic statement rather than being the ultimate desk for gaming. Although surprisingly, it can handle more weight than I’d have expected. Of course, you’ll need to very carefully consider where you’ll be mounting this desk.

I’d say it’s best to get some professional help rather than attempting to mount it yourself, even though you can easily do that with the right tools.

But would you really want to risk a collapsing desk with all your technological investment? Or worse, rip out a new interior window in your wall.

Prepac Wall Mounted Floating Desk

Even so, at just around $100, it’s a bargain if you have very little office space or simply don’t have the floor plan suitable for a typical desk. At least you won’t have to worry about height clearance since you’ll be able to set it accordingly.

The built-in cable management features are a very nice touch, along with lots of storage shelves for your various gaming or work related stash. And the laminated composite wood aesthetic can easily fit into any room you decide to mount it in.

WHAT I LIKE

  • Floating aesthetic is undeniably impressive
  • Space efficient design
  • Built-in cable management

WHAT SUCKED

  • Careful consideration on mounting is vit
  • More suitable for laptops
  • Small desktop area

2. bonVIVO MASSIMO Writing Desk

bonVIVO MASSIMO Writing Desk

QUICK SPECS

  • Height: 29.5 inches
  • Weight: 55.1 pounds
  • Dimensions: 43.3"(W) x 21.6"(D)

The bonVIVO MASSIMO desk is a contemporary art piece that serves as eye-catching furniture, so I can understand your confusion as to why we’ve included it in this best PC gaming desk list.

Well, just because we’re gamers doesn’t mean we can’t bring some artistic style into our living spaces. And the MASSIMO desk can easily fit into any modern or traditional interior design.

It has a shatter-resistant tempered glass desktop that can handle laptops or a basic monitor setup with enough room for a full sized keyboard and fairly large mousepad.

bonVIVO MASSIMO Writing Desk

The framing is made from lacquered medium-density fiberwood and solid bamboo legs set at an angle to give the desk some rigid stability. Even with an aesthetic that gives off the impression of a floating desktop, the assembly is pretty straightforward.

The problems arise when trying to plan a setup that won’t ruin the artistic aesthetics because there is absolutely no cable management considerations at all. Understandably so, since the designers were probably not considering it to be the best gaming desk.

WHAT I LIKE

  • Eye-catching artistic style
  • Sturdy bamboo legs
  • Lots of storage room

WHAT SUCKED

  • Tempered glass seems delicate
  • Cannot accommodate complex setups
  • Difficult cable management

SERIOUSLY?! NO Other ATLANTIC GAMING DESKs ?!?!

Well, let’s consider the facts. The Atlantic Gaming Centipede is primarily for consoles, and although it serves that purpose very well, It’s quite a limiting factor to be considered the best overall computer gaming desk. Let’s face it, PC gaming still holds the majority player base in the gaming industry.

And even if it didn’t, having an awesome place for your consoles but no workspace or other storage options isn’t a very good investment.

no atlantic gaming desk today

The Atlantic Gaming Desk Pro would still be a better gaming desk investment, even if you’re not a PC gamer simply for the versatility. Plus it can still accommodate a TV and multiple consoles at an even lower price point, which suffice to say, is a better investment.

Choosing The Ideal Desk For You

Ergonomics

The ergonomics of a gaming desk is vital in choosing what’s right for you. If you can’t be effective with what you, there’s really no point. Especially if you’re going to be working as well, then efficient means everything.

L Shape Design

An important part of efficiency is having everything you need within reach, since that’ll prevent you from having to move around too much. This is why a majority of products marketed as gaming desks are L-shaped allowing more room for all your gadgets and knick-knacks but within reach without having to get up from your seat.

Size and shape

The size and shape are very important because they affect the ergonomics of your gaming station. Obviously, the first thing to consider when picking out the best computer gaming desk for you, is your own size and shape. Personally, I like desks with higher clearance so that I have more room to adjust my seat.

Z-Shaped

Your desk's size and shape should fit your room.

Legroom is another important factor for me. Many gaming desks have ample legroom, and not just for the typical sitting position. When shopping for my desk, I looked at desk height and the side features to make sure my chair can easily slide underneath so I can sit cross-legged comfortably.

Storage

Storage can tends to be an afterthought. You don’t really think about where you’re going to keep stuff when you’re finally done with a gaming session. But if you’re like my wife, and a bit of an OC when it comes to organization, then you’ll definitely need to watch out for storage options.

Storage

If you have a lot of things, make sure your desk has available storage.

One thing I’ve noticed that a lot of desk manufacturers tend to miss out in storage design is the vertical space. It’s a fact that the most wasted space in any home are the walls, and if you live in a small home like me, you’ll quickly realize that going vertical is one of the most space efficient ways of getting storage options.

Aesthetics/Design

Much like when picking out a gaming chair, you gotta love how it look. But when it comes desks, there’s another factor to consider. Unlike a chair, a desk is more of a permanent furniture fixture in the whatever room you decide to place it in.

And unless you get a desk that can fold away, whatever you pick is going to affect the interior design of your space. And any man with a woman in his life will tell you, that is a very important aesthetic to pay attention to. Period.

Desks will come in all shapes, sizes, and design styles. So therefore it is important to take note of the design aesthetic of your room before you go out shopping for the best PC gaming desk.

Gaming Desk Aesthetics

Otherwise, you may end up with something that sticks out like a sore thumb. And trust me, your wife (if you have one) will not appreciate that.

Material/Build

Gaming Desk Material

Glass? Wood? There are plenty of materials to choose from.

Material and build are important for a very obvious reason. If you’re gonna trust this piece of furniture to be a home for your thousand dollar gaming rig, it had better do a good job of it.

Most of the gaming desks in the market today are made from some kind of fiberwood, it’s a cheap yet sturdy material for a desktop surface.

But it’s also important to be able to tell if it’s quality fiberwood.

Too thin can cause buckling and if not dense enough, you may walk into your gaming room to see your precious monitor flat on its face.

There’s also glass, but although it may look beautiful, I tend to avoid glass desktops for the sole reason that I’m an accident waiting to happen. Of course there’s tempered glass, but that can be costly.

Assembly Time

The complications of putting the gaming desk together are also something to consider. Depending on what aesthetic you’ve chosen, it can take anywhere from hours to literally seconds (in the case of pre-assembled folding desks).

For assembly, simple is always better. It really doesn’t make sense to get the supposedly best desk for gaming just to spend a whole day trying to figure out how to put it together. Assembly time does not directly correlate to a sturdier build quality, in fact, it could even be quite the opposite.

Beautiful aesthetics with simple assembly will show you that the manufacturer actually took time to really plan out a well-designed desk. And that’s a mark of quality.

Office desk vs gaming desk: Is there a difference?

So is there any difference between the best gaming desk and a regular office desk?

Well, some people would like to argue that there isn’t a difference at all. And when you do look at an average gaming desk in comparison to the average office desk, at first glance, you’d probably think the same thing.

More often than not, a decent office desk will serve you very well in place of a proper gaming desk.

Affordability is also a major factor as it seems when you slap the word “gaming” to something, it’s generally expected to cost a bit more.

office desk vs gaming desk

They're same...but not quite.

Design Differences

If we set aside ergonomics, the main difference between an office desk and a proper gaming desk is really the design. When you try to market something for gaming, there’s a certain aesthetic involved. And it’s not simply slapping on a few LEDs and putting “gaming” in the product description.

Comfort IS Gaming Experience

For a gamer, comfort directly correlates to gaming experience. We need to feel comfortable in order to maximize our focus on that sweet long range shot. And let’s face it, no one person is exactly alike in size, shape, or preference. To accommodate all of this, a proper gaming desk is often designed to be adjustable.

Gaming Desk = More Durable???

More durable selection also sets apart the best gaming desk from all the others. Because aside from having to endure long gaming sessions, it also needs to withstand a whole spectrum of emotions that can be quite punishing especially when the RNG gods seem to be against you for a particular gaming session.

Bells and Whistles

Finally, the additional features. Like comparing a stock city car to the luxury sportscar, the best gaming desk will have all the amenities for everything you need to extend your gaming sessions without ever having to stand up, except maybe to visit the bathroom. There’s no solution for that one yet.

Benefits of owning a PROPER gaming desk

Get more space

Getting a dedicated gaming desk is a lot like investing in a gaming chair, it’s really all about comfort and the overall gaming experience. Ample space is also important especially if your gaming rig is decked out with a multi-monitor setup.

More space

But more than that, it also adds value to the investment in versatility. More space means there is more you can do with it. The best gaming desk would be able to ergonomically suit your lifestyle, not just at play but also in work or study.

Better health

Because proper gaming desks are often designed to be adjustable, this can be helpful so as to avoid sore muscles and allow for more comfortable sitting positions. Which, in turn, is better for your physical health. Which, in turn, provides a much better gaming experience.

correct sitting position

God forbid that you get the dreaded carpal syndrome from poor hand positioning due to an unsuitable desk. And it does happen, especially if you spend hours upon hours on a mouse and keyboard.

And don’t forget you neck, improper placement of monitors can cause serious neck issues down the line. The best gaming desk is designed with those considerations such as monitor stands and other accessories that’ll make excessive staring at the screens easier on the neck and eyes.

Better cable management

Probably the best argument for investing in a proper gaming desk, is cable management. Personally, I have a cable tie obsession. I honestly believe that cable ties fix everything. But that’s because I’ve been using desks that have little to no cable management considerations.

I’m not a very organized person, I’ll be honest, but my OC-ness kicks in when I see unsightly cables just strewn about the place. I can’t stand it. Cable ties can help fix this problem, but nothing beats the best gaming desk that already has a solution built-in. This will dramatically decrease assembly time since you won’t have to worry about what to do with all those cables.

Style

A proper gaming desk looks good. As it should. When you slap “gaming” on something, there’s definitive expectation to be floored with something amazing. Sure, you can modify any old desk with some store bought LEDs, but more than that there’s an aesthetic of the best gaming desk that tells others how serious you are about gaming.

gaming desk style

There are many designs, styles, and aesthetics to choose from. Picking one that matches your gaming rig, and the interior design of your space is also worth noting. And you can’t deny that many gaming desks are designed with exactly that in mind.

Wrapping Up

With that’s been said and done, you have to remember that the defining factor in picking out the best gaming desk is yourself. It’s got to fit your size, your shape, your preferences, and most importantly, your gaming experience.

It is definitely worth putting investment into something that’ll last for years instead of struggling to keep your rig up-to-date when new technology keeps coming out every few months. Besides, we’re also talking about your comfort and health which is paramount in getting the best gaming experience possible.
