1. Twist The CPU Very Gently And Slowly

1. Removing Heatsink/Cooler From The Motherboard

This method is by far the safest but requires a bit more work on your part. After removing both parts from their sockets, you will need to clean off any excess thermal paste that’s still attached to your CPU using rubbing alcohol or similar products with solvents. Use an old toothbrush if needed!

Do not hold the nozzle less than 1 centimeter away from your CPU make sure that both components are turned off though! Once you feel some give in one small section, carefully try prying the CPU up with a plastic card such as a credit card

Gently continue to apply pressure and use your other hand to slowly rotate the stuck CPU so that it will pop out of its socket more easily.

4. Use A Sharp Object To Separate Your CPU From Its Heatsink/Cooler

This method is quite similar to the previous one in that you will be using heat (in this case very hot water rather than an air nozzle) to slowly loosen your CPU’s grip on its heatsink/cooler unit

Start by heating some very hot tap water and let it cool for several minutes before getting started with this procedure. Make sure not to burn your skin, and try placing the bottom part of the heatsink/cooler under running cold tap water before attempting anything! 

As soon as you get a chance, get a thin but sturdy metal object such as a needle or pin and start picking away at any remaining thermal paste still attaching your CPU to its cooler.

5. Remove Your Stuck CPU Using A Hammer

Yes, it sounds odd – and brute force is involved here, but if you’re careful and patient enough – this method can work for you! You should use the same theory as the “flat-edged tool” method in that you need to apply pressure at an angle so that your CPU will pop out of its socket without damaging any components on your motherboard. 

The only issue with this method is that it’s quite hard to control so take extra care when trying this one. Use a protective material such as well-placed newspapers before taking up the challenge though.

How To Remove The Thermal Paste From The CPU Socket?

You can remove an AMD CPU from its socket by heating the PC and removing the CPU from its socket. To do this, follow the steps given below:

1. Remove the CPU fan and apply a liberal amount of thermal paste onto the CPU.

2. Turn on your PC and let it warm up for 5-10 minutes (be careful not to burn yourself).

3. Heat will make the CPU expand, making it easier to remove from its socket.

4. Gently wiggle the CPU out by applying pressure at an angle with a plastic card such as a credit card or driver’s license.

5. Take off any thermal paste that may be left on the CPU using water and soap or isopropyl alcohol then wipe dry with soft tissue paper/cloth/cotton wool before applying new thermal paste and reattaching the heatsink/cooler unit.
