The Samsung Odyssey G7 is a versatile monitor with amazing gaming performance that’s available either in the 27 or 32-inch size. It has a fast 240Hz refresh rate and supports FreeSync variable rates (VRR) technology, which makes it more compatible with VR headsets like Oculus Rift. Its picture quality also boasts a good contrast ratio, color accuracy out of the box plus great colors overall onscreen thanks to its wide gamut capabilities.

We remeasured the contrast ratio with different equipment, but we obtained very similar results. This means that our measurements are higher than other reviewers have found and even Samsung’s specifications for this display.
We also tried adjusting different settings to see if that made a difference. With ‘Black Equalizer’ at 10, we measured contrast ratios of 3922:1 and 3892:1 when set higher than 6-7 on the GUI menus; however, there was not much change with 12 or 14 Black Level adjustment options available in our unit (these numbers can be seen below). All these tests are consistent across units and given other reviews who found lower contrasts elsewhere.
SDR Peak Brightness
We retested our original findings to make sure that we were testing SDR peak brightness with local dimming turned on. We also re-did the same tests for 7 other monitors, and some of their results changed accordingly. HDR Peak Brightness
Retesting the peak brightness with local dimming on, we found that this monitor is indeed capable of reaching a maximum light output somewhere around 600 nits. However – due to how quickly it drops at 494 nit as opposed to achieving such high values (and maintaining them) in terms reported by other monitors tested alongside ours- our readings were updated accordingly.
The Samsung Odyssey G7 LC32G75T has an Okay HDR peak brightness. Small highlights are bright enough to stand out a bit, but most scenes aren’t really lit with enough color for content that uses this technology and standard dynamic range (SDR) is sufficient when watching movies on Netflix or Amazon Prime Video in native resolutions without any compression applied.
Horizontal Viewing Angle
